clapoter: to splash or lap, to chop (as waves)

Les vagues continuant de clapoter à leurs pieds, les enfants couraient le long de la plage.

The waves continuing to lap at their feet, the children ran along the beach.

 

J'étais assis au bout de la jetée et je contemplais les eaux bleues clapotantes du détroit de Taiwan.  

I sat at the end of the jetty and gazed into the choppy blue waters of the Taiwan strait.

Guy Fawkes Night is a yearly celebration, mainly in Great Britain, of the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot of November 5 1605, a day during which English Catholics led by Robert Catesby, accompanied by Guy Fawks and eleven others conspirators, attempted to blow up Parliament.
