le guidon

The word of the day in French is le guidon.  It means the handlebars of a bike.  It also means a banner or pennant.
  • Les premières guidons modernes ont été équipés sur les bicyclettes en 1885.
Bicycles were installed with the first modern handlebars in 1885.

The hero kept the blue and gold pennant hoisted to the top of its tall mast.
